Grading Information
Standards Based Report Cards (K-2)
New Caney ISD Kindergarten, first and second grade students are graded using a standards-based report card. Instead of a single overall grade, a standards-based report card breaks down the subject matter into smaller “learning targets.” Each target is a teachable concept that students should master by the end of the grade level. Throughout the nine weeks, student learning on each target is evaluated and recorded and will be reported to parents on a standards-based report card. Teachers track student progress, give appropriate feedback, and adapt instruction to meet student needs.
Canvas
Through Canvas, New Caney ISD's learning management system, students are able to access course materials, submit assignments, and view scores and feedback. Parents can use Canvas to view their child's course materials, assignments, and scores, and stay informed about their academic progress. Please note that not all activities (assignments, discussions, and quizzes) in Canvas count for a grade.
NCISD parents and guardians have the option to create a Canvas Parent account to connect to their student's courses in Canvas. The Canvas Parent Portal can be accessed via a web browser or Android/iOS app.
For more information, go to NCISD Digital Learning.
Skyward
Skyward Family Access allows parents and guardians to access their child's school-related information, such as grades, attendance, and schedules. In New Caney ISD, it is the official gradebook of record and provides access to progress reports and report cards.
Not all Canvas assignments are listed in Skyward, so it is important to check Skyward for official grades.
